Hey, thanks for checking out my fun page. Here, I'm sharing just a few things about what entertains me in pop culture so you can get a sense of my interests and sense of humor. I love listening to music and seeing it live (having been to >280 concerts). Muppets and classic cartoons make me laugh. I'm not a huge movie buff but I will watch my favorites ones over and over again.
I'm a HUGE "music-phile"!
I "discovered" music back when tapes were still cool. The picture below shows my collection of the first tapes I bought (which I still have alongside my walkman). Some of these are still my favorite albums of all time. I love having music on nearly all the time; it soothes a part of my brain that goes a bit crazy when there's too much silence!
Going to concerts is also a passion. I go to as many as I can. My first show was in 1992 (En Vogue and Arrested Development in Pittsburgh). Here's a screenshot of my setlist.fm page of the top artists I've seen since then:
As you can see, I'm a bit of a "Dave-head." I've been fortunate over the years that DMB has played a lot in and near places where I've lived but I've also traveled across the country on "Dave-cations" to see them (including the Gorge and the Golden Gate Park show in San Francisco). Here's a picture of me and Troy when we met Dave in State College, PA:
I'm also a big fan of the Muppets.
This is one of the best Muppet skits:
Here's one of my Muppet Halloween costumes! (No, I'm not that much of a weirdo in real life :)
Droopy is one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time.
And the Ventriloquist Cat makes me laugh every time, me-yow me-yow:
I use quotes from this classic Ren & Stimpy episode all the time
("no, sir I don't like it" even though I really do!):
Big Fish is one of my all-time favorite movies:
And these are some of the others I go back and watch whenever I need a pick-me-up (of course there's a Muppet one):
And from Good Will Hunting, I think this is one of the most important quotes from a movie ever:
Sean (Robin Williams) says to Wil (Matt Damon):
"So, if I asked you about art you'd probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michaelangelo, you know allot about him. Life's work, political aspirations, him and the Pope, sexual orientation, the whole works, right? But I bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You've never actually stood there, and looked at that beautiful ceiling."
(or here's the audio clip to download)
WOW! So true. We can only really know what we have experienced!
And now you can say you've experienced my fun pop culture page! Like Stimpy says...
